The project was to demolish an existing, leaking UPVC conservatory and replace it with an extension that would be better insulated and provide a more useable space all year round. The extension was constructed with materials that matched that of the existing while allowing as much natural light into the space as possible by including large windows and fully glazed doors.
To be able to include as much window space as possible, wind posts had to be designed into the construction of the extension to carry the load of the roof and any lateral wind loads.
The internal space was kept minimalist, with the ceiling created to follow the pitch of the roof and exposing the ridge beam to give a feel of height and space and also a wonderful internal feature. This small extension provided the clients with a fantastic sun lounge which was cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and gave the feeling of "bringing the outside in", that could be enjoyed all year round.
